Background

The Punjab Institute of Cardiology, established in 1989, is the first Heart Institute in the Punjab province. It aims to provide excellent care for all types of heart diseases. A large group of well trained adult & pediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and cardiac anesthesiologists, who had their training and working experiences in Pakistan and abroad, together with our well-trained and experienced nurses, technicians and other medical staff, provide 24-hour care for all heart diseases. It was established in response to the acute deficiency felt for comprehensive care of cardiac patients. Originally named as "CARDIAC CENTRE", its foundation stone was laid by Lt. General Ghulam Jilani Khan (Late), the then Governor of Punjab, on November 10, 1984. The hospital was later inaugurated by Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, the then Chief Minister of Punjab, on October 15,1988. In patient was commissioned on October 5,1990 whereas the first open heart surgery was performed on October 9, 1990.
